internet speed

As Internet is becoming an important assistant in this modern society, any error can slow down Internet speed probably. Therefore, that is why you need to learn some methods to improve Internet speed. Here are useful tips and tricks help you in this regard.

1. Delete records on the address bar list.
If there are too many history logs in the address bar, it may slow down visiting speed. You can delete them through altering registry. In the “Registry Editor”, open this item in order: “HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Typed Urls”. All the sub-keys under it belong to history logs. You have to find those unwanted ones and then get rid of it.

2. Delete the junk information in the right-click menu.
A new source code can add its own website name to the right-click menu. Every time using it, you may find it is in that menu. You can get rid of it in the registry, too. Find out “HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Menu Ext” and delete them. It is OK now.

3. Clean up Internet history.
When surfing on the Internet, you may not realize that a mess of junk is being produced secretly in your computer. Such junk includes Internet history, temporary files, Cache, Cookies and so on. It is inevitable to produce when you visit websites, log in users name, password or personal and identified information on the Internet.

Click “Start” > “Control Panel” > “Network and Internet Connection” > “Internet Options,” in the “General” tab, click the buttons of “Delete Files” and “Clear History.” Or you can clear up all the contents under the folder of “Temporary Internet files.” Besides, you have to clear up certain temporary files in the directory of “C:/Windows/Temp.”

Among these methods, the third one may be most complicated since you need to wipe out temporary files in many aspects. As a result, I recommend you to use a third-party tool named “Duplicate File Cleaner” which can help you to get rid of the hassle easily.

If you want to surf the web and download/upload faster, while this isn’t going to be a revelation to anyone, you need to have Broadband Internet Service (such as a Cable, DSL or “T1 or T3″ connection). If you have telephone modem service, forget it Jack- you lose, you’ll never get fast internet speed ever, you can’t squeeze blood out of a stone!

So to pass “Go”, step 1 is to get Broadband Internet Service! Of these, usually a “T” line is the fastest and most expensive and “Cable” and “DSL” both have their pluses and minuses. I have Cable Internet Service which is quite fast and the pluses are your connection is by cable rather than a phone line. The negatives are the more people using the Cable line at the same time will slow down your internet speed. With DSL which is also fast, you are using a phone line but are not affected by the amount of people on DSL at the same time. Basically it’s your call for which service is best for your situation. Before I go on, factors like the amount of memory your computer has, the processor speed and the hard drive space, could affect internet speed to a degree and I’d try especially in regards to memory and processor speed, to get the maximum you can afford.

Even though you have Broadband, you still might not be happy with your internet speed because: 1. Your cache is too large, 2. You have adware/spyware/viruses on your computer, 3. Your modem needs rebooting, and 4. You don’t have an internet speed accelerator. I’ll now go over what to do on each of these:

In the case of your cache being too large, it could slow down your speed and I recommend you get software that clears the cache on your internet browser whether it be Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, etc. The software I recommend is (Webroot ) Window Washer. I would use this software daily but do not have your browser window open when you do. This will clear your cache.

Adware/Spyware and viruses definitely can slow your internet speed down. I would get a decent anti-spyware/adware program to get this stuff off your computer and run it every few days. I would have a decent anti-virus program as well and scan for viruses at least weekly. Note, if you go to Porn sites and some MP3 download sites, your computer will in all likelihood pick up spyware/adware, so ask yourself if it’s worth it because chances are your internet speed will be affected. I’d recommend you use (Webroot) Spyware Doctor and/or (PC Tools) Registry Mechanic to get rid of this stuff and also NOD 32 for your anti-virus software, as it doesn’t slow down your internet speed and computer like some other anti-virus programs do. I would try to avoid most Internet Security Software as they tend to slow down internet speed as well.

Every so often, your internet carrier for some reason loses a connection on your modem and when they resume for some reason your internet speed runs slower. When that happens, you need to reboot your modem. Just unplug the power cord for about a minute and then reconnect it to the socket. Your modem will reboot and the speed should be back to the way its suppose to be.

Lastly, I would get internet accelerator software. This software maximizes your computer’s settings for faster downloads and internet response. I actually use two programs for this: Ascentive ActiveSpeed and Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC. I run ActiveSpeed first and SpeedUpMyPC right after. I run both programs after I’ve rebooted my computer or when I’ve added or deleted software programs.

The end result from following the above steps should be to get your internet speed including downloads, running consistently faster then before.

Internet connectivity has become essential in our lives. Most of us work from home, while few do the office work from home. Therefore, it is important to have a reliable and fast Internet connection. Many of us complain about slow Internet speed and want to increase it by increasing memory or upgrade system processor or ultimately buy a new computer. You can increase the RAM, if the is RAM is less for the number of programs you use. This slows down not only the computer but also the Internet speed. More RAM can be added any time you feel it is necessary. If you have a 0.5 GB system you may choose to make it to 2 GB and this will certainly make the system faster and the Internet speed too increases.

But if you have a system with high configuration and a high RAM, you may need to think of other choices to run the system as well as the Internet faster. Check if there is anything within the system that is slowing down the Internet speed such as presence of a virus or an adware, spyware or malicious software which will contribute in bringing down the speed of the Internet.

Check the system with the latest version of anti-virus software. Run the scan to see if the system is infected with adware, spyware or a virus. If the scan results show positive, quarantine that particular group and fix the problem. This should automatically increase the system speed as well as the Internet speed.

If the system is not infected with any malicious program and still the Internet speed is low, you can increase by removing all the temporary Internet Files, cookies (not the ones that are eaten, but that of computer’s), remove all those unused programs and files (not used on regular basis by the user but they are always running).

Gone are the dial-up days, when it was taking irritatingly long hours to connect to Internet, with broadband the connectivity should not be an issue at all. Take care of your system and you are connected to the Internet at rocket speed.
